Robert Gallmeyer was a quiet red head whose life was cut short in an accident at sea while in the military. He was an only child and his parents were real patrons of the arts. They had musical "soirees" on Sunday afternoons where many of us gathered and read through classical music together. I spent many many hours at the Gallmeyers' house and have many sweet memories of music we made together.

I got to know Bob reasonable well because we were in the Navy Reserve, swimming and water polo teams, and life guarded together. Bob never had an unkind word to say about anyone and always seemed to be in an upbeat mood.  The last time I saw him was during a water polo game between his college, San Fransisco State, and mine, Cal Poly, SLO.  After I scored a goal, he asked me if I was happy, now.  I responded that I was happier but intended to score more.  I was very saddened to hear he had been killed in a shipboard accident at sea.
