Fred grew up on a farm in Oso Flaco, attending schools in Guadalupe, Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria. In 1962 he married Judy Downs and together they raised two daughters. Fred is survived by his daughters, brother, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. (Excerpted from Santa Maria Times)

I attended Guadalupe grammar school with Fred and his sister Janice. We were in first grade all the way up to the eighth grade. When we graduated from Guadalupe school, I went to Santa Maria High and he and Janice went to Arroyo Grande high school, because they lived in Oso Flaco. He played one or two years of football in Arroyo Grande high. But he once confided in me that he came back to Santa Maria high because he missed all his Guad pals, but I think that he had already met Judy Downs, his future wife, and that was the real reason he came back. I will miss Fred, Judy, and Janice.
