Don was the only one of us who joined the army on the "buddy" system, who stayed in--- He achieved the highest rank NCO the army has--miss him and his crooked smile---his picture is on my profile page---our swearing in photo taken in L. A.
While stationed with the Army at Fort Ord, CA, I had been talking to some guy on the CB (Big in those days) over several months, "Hawkeye". One day we decided to meet at the NCO Club and meet one another. Believe my surprise when I walked in and saw Don sitting there. We talked for awhile and then realized (didn't know at the time) that we were the ones talking to each other. Had a great visit and several beers later went back to our units. We ran into each other a couple of more times in our careers. We had been good friends through school (I hadn't seen him since graduating because he and Bill and Leon and a few others went in on the "Buddy System). Both of us retired from the Army.
